Finances

Our financial year runs from 1st April to 31st March.  Each year the Parish Council completes an annual return of its accounts.  This has to be audited by somebody appointed by the Parish Council before being independently examined by an external auditor. 

 

The public have an opportunity to examine the accounts prior to the external audit being completed.  The recent annual returns for the Parish Council can be found below and in the interest of transparency, individual payments are listed in the Parish Council meeting minutes, usually monthly.

The budget is usually set in January each year for the following financial year which helps to determine the annual Precept. The Precept is a small tax on parishioners, collected by Breckland District Council, as part of the Council Tax, on behalf of the Parish Council and paid to them in two installments throughout the year. This enables the Parish Council to be able to carry out its work on behalf of the village.
